How We Work

At IKKAI, every piece is made entirely by hand. I throw each bowl, cup, and plate on the wheel, shape it carefully, and finish it with glazes that I develop myself. This way of working means that every item carries its own character — no two are ever exactly the same.

Because the process takes time, I create in small, thoughtful collections. To make sure everything feels special — and to keep things fair for everyone — I update the webshop about every 8–10 weeks.

Shop Updates

A shop update is when new bowls, cups, plates, and other pieces are added to the site. Some items will return in future updates, while others will not — but there will almost always be new pieces to discover. Each update is announced ahead of time, and once it goes live, the pieces are available until they sell out.

Early Access for Subscribers

If you’re subscribed to the IKKAI mailing list, you get a little something extra. About a week before each update, I send out an email with the date of the release. The evening before the update, you can preview all the new work online. Then, one day before the shop update, subscribers receive a special password giving them early access — up to 5 hours before the shop opens to the public.

Sharing the Process

In the weeks leading up to each shop update, I regularly share behind-the-scenes on Instagram — from throwing and trimming to glazing and kiln openings. It’s a way to follow the journey of each piece and see the collection slowly take shape.

Shipping After Shop Updates

During the week after a shop update, shipping may take a little longer than usual. Many orders come in at once, and I take extra care to wrap and pack each piece safely. Thank you for your patience — your order will always be prepared with the same attention and care that went into making the pottery itself.

Why We Do It This Way

Because every piece is handmade, stock is always limited. Early access gives subscribers the chance to find the pieces they love before they’re gone. It’s also my way of saying thank you for supporting my work and being part of this community.
