The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes. One dark and rich Tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.

I create every piece by hand in my home studio. The name IKKAI means “one time,” reflecting the individual character of everything I make. No two pieces are exactly the same, and that is what makes handmade ceramics so special.
