A one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic lampshade from my Inyo Series. At 7 cm high and 19 cm in diameter, this is a small lampshade with a shallow, softly rounded shape and a wide rim.

The upper part has been left unglazed, allowing the warm colour and natural texture of the stoneware clay to remain visible. The lower part is finished half in Tenmoku glaze and half in clear glaze.

The glazes have flowed during firing, creating dark edges, olive tones and natural variations. The clear glaze gives the clay a smooth, glossy finish and has pooled in small waves near the rim.

The inside is also divided between Tenmoku and clear glaze, making the contrast especially visible when viewed from below.

Fitting: Bronze vintage-style fitting, E27 bulb holder with a matching bronze ceiling rose
Cord: 1.5 Metre Rope cord
Material: Durable stoneware clay, fired at 1222°C

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The shallow shape curves gently outwards towards the rim, giving the lampshade a low, open profile.

Its compact size makes it a lovely choice beside a bed, above a small side table, in a reading corner or above a kitchen counter.

The contrast between the dark Tenmoku, glossy clear glaze and natural unglazed clay gives the shade a different look from each side. The glaze moved naturally during firing, so this exact pattern is unique to this piece.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes. One dark and rich Tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
