The Inyo Coffee Cup brings together two very different glazes, deep, dark tenmoku and a soft transparent clear glaze that flow across the clay like shifting landscapes. Where the surfaces meet, something new always appears: sometimes bold and dramatic, sometimes gentle and quiet.

Each cup feels alive with its own movement. The rounded form fits comfortably in your hands, while the glaze settles into patterns that can never be repeated. More than just a vessel, it’s a piece that invites you to pause, notice the details, and enjoy the beauty of small, everyday moments.

The glazes give every cup its own little story. Some look like a dark horizon line, others like soft rivers across clay. They’re simple pieces, but each one has a presence that feels more than just functional.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes. One dark and rich Tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
