A new Hinoki cup based on the faceted shape I also use for some of my matcha bowls.

Each cup begins as a wheel-thrown form before the outside is shaped by hand into broad, softly curved facets. This gives it a sculptural look while allowing it to sit comfortably between both hands.

The cup is finished in my glossy Hinoki glaze, which moves between deep forest green, olive and almost black. Each facet catches the light differently, making the colour and depth of the glaze more visible as you turn the cup.

A narrow foot lifts the shape slightly from the table and leaves a small section of the natural stoneware clay exposed.

• Capacity: Approximately 200 ml
• Finish: Glossy deep green glaze with hand applied slip decoration
• Material: Stoneware clay fired at 1222°C

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The taller proportions give the familiar shape a different character. It feels strong and sculptural, while the gently curved sides make it comfortable to hold for coffee, tea or another favourite drink.

The Hinoki glaze brings out every part of the design. It gathers along the edges and becomes darker across some of the flatter sections, creating a mix of bright green, olive and deep black tones.
