Yunomi Cup - Kuro
Yunomi Cup - Kuro

Dark, dramatic, and full of hidden depth, this handmade yunomi cup is finished in my Kuro glaze — a rich glossy black that reveals flashes of deep blue, burgundy, and red when it catches the light.
At first glance, the cup appears almost entirely black. But as you turn it in your hands, subtle layers begin to emerge beneath the surface. In bright sunlight, the glaze comes alive with shifting colours and tiny speckles, making every angle feel different from the last.
The softly faceted form gives the cup a sculptural quality while remaining comfortable to hold, making it perfect for everyday tea, coffee, or simply admiring on a shelf between uses.

Why You’ll Love It
This is one of those pieces that constantly changes depending on the light around it.
In softer light, it appears deep black and almost mysterious. Place it in sunlight and you'll start to notice flashes of midnight blue, rich burgundy, and glowing red tones hidden beneath the glossy surface. It's a glaze that rewards a closer look.
I love making these cups because they feel both functional and artistic. The faceted sides catch the light beautifully and create subtle shadows across the surface, while the slightly irregular rim reminds you that each piece was made entirely by hand.
Perfect for tea, coffee, sake, or any drink that deserves a cup with a little extra character.
