A one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic lampshade finished in Inyo, a combination of two glazes that move and react together during firing.

This is an extra-special piece. The glaze has created a beautifully long drip reaching up across the exposed stoneware clay. This movement happens naturally inside the kiln and cannot be controlled or recreated in exactly the same way, making this lampshade completely unique.

The warm brown and olive tones of the glaze contrast beautifully with the natural clay, while the darker edge around the rim adds extra depth. The inside is glazed and the throwing lines from the pottery wheel remain visible, giving the light a warm, handmade character.

At 22.5 cm in diameter, it’s a lovely size for hanging beside a bed, above a small side table or kitchen counter, or as a special statement light above a dining table.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The unusually long glaze drip makes this one of the most special Inyo lampshades I’ve made. It stretches far beyond the main glazed area, creating a completely natural detail that could never be repeated in exactly the same way.

The combination of warm brown glaze, darker edges and exposed stoneware clay gives the lampshade depth without making it feel too heavy. The visible throwing lines and natural glaze movement keep the handmade character of the piece.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes. One dark and rich Tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
