The wide, open form gives this bowl presence, while the glaze creates all the movement. The deep tenmoku flows into the clear glaze over the toffee colored clay in a way that feels organic and natural. Every time I open the kiln, the line between dark and light looks slightly different. That unpredictability is what makes each piece feel special.

The contrast is strong, yet calm. Bold, yet balanced.

Why You’ll Love It

I reach for this shape a lot in my own kitchen. It’s wide and shallow, perfect for big salads, noodles, or even as a fruit bowl on the counter.

For me, the Inyo Series is all about balance: dark and light, glossy and matte, controlled lines and flowing glaze. This bowl holds that balance beautifully, while still being completely functional and easy to use every day.

About the Inyo Series

The Inyo Series was born from an experiment: dipping one piece in two contrasting glazes and letting them flow together across the clay. The result reminded me of a landscape — layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang, and this series reflects that idea through both form and finish. Every bowl becomes its own meeting point between opposites, where something new and unexpected always appears.

Each piece is handmade slowly and intuitively, carrying a surface that feels alive and balanced. The Inyo Series is a reminder that beauty often comes from contrast.
