Matcha Bowl – Inyo Series #03

Part of the Inyo Series, this handmade matcha bowl brings together two very different glazes—dark, glossy tenmoku and soft, transparent clear—that meet and flow across warm stoneware clay. Each bowl is wheel-thrown in my home studio and glazed by hand, allowing the surfaces to overlap in ways that are always spontaneous, layered, and unique.

• Shape: Rounded design with a small footed base
• Size: 8 cm height x 11 cm diameter
• Capacity: Approx. 500ml
• Finish: Tenmoku and clear glaze over stoneware clay, each flow one of a kind
• Material: Stoneware clay, fired at 1222°C

Because every bowl is handmade on my wheel, you might notice slight differences in shape, size, or glaze from the photo. That’s what makes each one truly special.

Please note: The matcha whisk, spoon, and whisk holder are not included, but can be added to complete your tea setup.

About the Inyo Series

The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes — one dark and rich tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang — and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
