Salad/Pasta Plate – Inyo

This handmade pasta plate is part of the Inyo Series, a collection inspired by contrast and balance. Each plate is wheel-thrown by hand and finished with a combination of glossy clear glaze and deep tenmoku glaze, creating a natural meeting point between light and dark. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, making each one completely unique.
The shape is wide and shallow with an intentional curved dent on one side, giving the plate a softer, more organic feel. It’s a small detail, but one that changes the character of the piece completely, adding movement and making it feel unmistakably handmade.

Why You’ll Love It
What I love most about this piece is the meeting of opposites. The rich dark tenmoku glaze flows naturally into the lighter clear glaze, creating a line that is never repeated the same way twice. Some pieces have a dramatic contrast, while others blend more softly, making every plate unique.
The curved dent along the rim was added intentionally to break up the perfect round shape and give the piece a more natural, relaxed appearance. Combined with the visible throwing lines and flowing glazes, it creates a plate that feels full of character without being overly decorative.
It’s perfect for pasta, risotto, salads, or simple meals shared around the table. One of those pieces that’s easy to use every day but still feels special when you pick it up.
Pair it with one of our handmade wooden spoons for a beautiful natural combination. Check out the Accessories page to find wooden spoons that complement your ceramic bowl perfectly.
About the Inyo Series
The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes — one dark and rich tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.
“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang — and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.
Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
