Yunomi Cups - Inyo #01

These Inyo yunomi cups have such a soft, comforting feel. The shape is classic for everyday Japanese tea cups — rounded, easy to hold, and just the right size for a warm drink. Inside, the glazes melt into gold, brown, blue, and a touch of gentle green. Each cup fires differently, so every one has its own look and personality.

The outside has that signature Inyo character: flowing glaze drips, soft transitions, and warm toffee stoneware showing through. The contrast between the glossy interior and the raw exterior gives the cup a natural, handmade charm.

About the Inyo Series

The Inyo Series began as a quiet experiment. I was curious what might happen if I dipped each piece in two different glazes — one dark and rich tenmoku, the other soft and transparent clear glaze. The result reminded me of a landscape: layered, spontaneous, and full of contrast.

“Inyo” is the Japanese word for yin and yang — and this series reflects that idea in both form and finish. Where the two glazes meet, something new and unexpected always appears. Some flows are bold, others gentle — each piece completely unique.

Every item in the series is made slowly and intuitively by hand. The variation in the glazes gives them a sense of quiet movement, and a presence that goes beyond function.
