The Kuro Ash Matcha Bowl is made using an ash-grey stoneware clay and finished with a deep glossy black glaze. The contrast between the rich dark glaze and the exposed clay creates a bowl full of depth, character, and subtle variation.
Each bowl is wheel-thrown by hand, allowing the throwing lines, soft curves, and natural movement of the glaze to become part of its final personality. During firing, the glaze settles differently on every piece, creating unique transitions, subtle speckles, and details that can never be repeated exactly the same way twice.
The rounded footed form feels balanced and comfortable in the hands, making it perfect for preparing matcha, enjoying tea, or simply slowing down for a quiet moment during the day.

Why You’ll Love It
What I love most about this bowl is the depth of the glaze. At first glance it appears almost black, but as the light moves across the surface, subtle variations and speckles begin to emerge, giving the bowl a richness that photographs never fully capture.
The contrast between the glossy glaze and the exposed clay creates a balance between refinement and the natural character of handmade pottery. Every firing produces slightly different results, making each bowl completely unique.
Inside, the bowl is fully glazed with a smooth glossy finish that feels wonderful to use every day. The rounded shape also provides plenty of room to whisk matcha comfortably into a smooth, creamy foam.
Pair it with a Matching Whisk Holder or Bamboo Tea Accessories to complete your matcha setup.
